Randy CoutureMMA Weekly breaks the news that we’re at least halfway there.

According to multiple sources from Couture’s camp, he has agreed to face Nogueira at the yet-unannounced UFC 101 sometime in August. The event may take place in Portland, Ore.

The UFC is now awaiting a response from Nogueira’s camp.

There is really no foreseeable reason to believe that this fight will not take place. Nogueira last fought on December 27th and was stopped for the first time in his remarkable career. What better way to get back on track than with a high profile fight against ‘The Natural’?

Although it had been rumored that Couture might be the man to welcome Mirko Cro Cop back to the UFC in Germany, it appears that there were simply too many obstacles to overcome. Among those is the fact that Cro Cop has not even signed with the UFC yet. A minor problem, I know, but one that would surely have to be resolved before he could be booked in any matches, I suppose.

Regardless, a fight between Couture and Nogueira makes sense for both men at this point of their careers and should be one that the fans will be anticipating. Add this to the fact that BJ Penn might defend his title (finally) against Kenny Florian in the main event of the evening, and some fans might even start looking past what should be a star-studded UFC 100. Okay, maybe not, but at least we won’t experience a let down after that epic event is over.

Sign the papers boys.
