Earlier this week, news broke that Randy Couture had accepted a proposed heavyweight bout against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 101. Word hadn’t come back from Big Nog’s camp though.
Well, it has now. According to MMA Weekly, Minotauro has agreed to take the fight as well.
Former Pride and UFC interim heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has agreed to face former UFC heavyweight champ Randy Couture at UFC 101 in August.
Though a date can’t be confirmed at this time, multiple sources wishing to remain anonymous say the unannounced card is likely to take place in Portland, Ore.
MMAWeekly.com on Thursday reported that Couture had accepted an offer to face the Brazilian, his first fight since losing the heavyweight crown to Brock Lesnar at UFC 91. Nogueira has now reciprocated, although bout agreements have yet to be signed.
I have to say, prior to UFC 91, I thought Couture and Nogueira would be meeting this year to determine who the undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion is. Boy, I couldn’t have been more wrong. It may have lost of bit of its luster, but you’d be hard pressed to find a longtime fan of mixed martial arts who doesn’t want to see these two living legends finally go at it.
On a not really related note, Mike Swick now has an opponent for UFC 99. He’ll square off against Ben Saunders. Also, Josh Koscheck will try to put his upset loss against Paulo Thiago behind him at UFC 98 against Chris Wilson.
