Lashley has apparently signed to face none other than Mr. Cartoon Crusher himself, Bob “The Beast” Sapp. MMA Fanhouse has the scoop.
Former WWE heavyweight champion Bobby Lashley will face MMA veteran Bob Sapp on June 27 at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Miss.
FanHouse has learned that MMA rookie officially signed his bout agreement late last night.
The Sapp-Lashley fight will be promoted by long-time boxing promoters, Prize Fight Promotions. They have promoted famous boxing bouts like Mike Tyson vs. Lennox Lewis in 2002 and Roy Jones Jr. vs. Glen Johnson in 2004. This pay-per-view event will be the first of many they are planning to organize. Expect several familiar MMA names to also appear on the card.
As much as many fans, including myself, would like to see Bobby face legitimate opponents and progress his career, he apparently isn’t quite ready to leave pro wrestling entirely in his past just yet. Bobby appeared on the TNA Lockdown pay-per-view last weekend, however, there aren’t any plans, at least at the moment, for him to return to the squared circle to compete, or whatever it is those guys do.
As much as Lashley wants to prove himself as a legitmate mixed martial artist, and one day make it to the UFC, he must still be getting offers that are just too good to refuse.
Update: Guess who else is fighting on this card? Tom Atencio! Here’s the line-up according to MMA Cube.
