Apparently, fighting a powerful wrestler his own size isn’t big enough of a challenge for Lyoto Machida.
After he’s done taking care of business in his own weight class, he’d like to test himself against the big boys in the heavyweight division, specifically Brock Lesnar.
“I don’t think about fight at heavyweight division, but I think about a challenge, maybe against the heavyweight champion, but it’s time for it now. My focus, for sure, is on my division now, later is later. Maybe a fight against Brock Lesnar. He’s a huge guy, showed himself very aggressive and strong, who knows if one day we can fight… I respect him as a fighter, he’s very strong, but I’m professional and I’d like to test myself.”
Talk about coming out of left field on this one, Lyoto.
Seriously, what’s the deal with all these fighters wanting to jump weight classes? Isn’t surviving in the 205lbs shark tank enough of a “test?” It would be for me, but I also think the proper place to dispose of urine is in a toilet or on a tree, not in a stomach, so I suppose me and Lyoto think on two entirely different wavelengths.
Nevertheless, if these two were to meet, which seems about as likely as Brock fighting Fedor in a UFC-built Russian stadium, I can’t lie and say I wouldn’t watch. I envision it going down very similar to a bullfight. Matador stands there waving his arms. Bull charges. The elusive matador steps to the side. Bull runs head first into the cage. Yeah, you get the idea.
Not something I’m begging to see, but if it’s put in front me, yeah, I’m gonna watch to see if the bull ever catches the matador with one his big horns.
