A handful of UFC scheduling/booking news broke today.
First up, it was believed that UFC 107 would be the big year-end UFC event headlined by the TUF 10 coaches showdown between Rampage Jackson and Rashad Evans. That may not necessarily be the case anymore though. Rampage and Rashad will still headline UFC 107, but it will take place in Rampage’s hometown, Memphis, Tennessee, not Las Vegas, on either December 12 or 19, according to MMA Junkie. Since Xmas falls on a Friday this year, the last Saturday of the year is a no-go, however the UFC is considering holding their traditional Vegas end-of-year event on Jan 2 instead. No word yet on who may be competing on that card.
Moving on, a big heavyweight showdown between top prospects Cain Velasquez and Shane Carwin was previously rumored to be headlining UFC 103. Not anymore. They’re likely still fighting each other, but it looks like the fight will happen at UFC 104 on Oct. 24 instead. Carwin let the cat out of the bag today on his twitter account. Apparently, he wasn’t supposed to say anything since the fight hasn’t been signed yet, and didn’t think anyone would notice. Welcome to MMA’s internet community, Mr. Carwin. You can’t fart around here without someone writing a blog or forum post about it somewhere.
