Another Affliction fighter has found a home. Welterweight Jay Hieron, who was originally scheduled to face Paul Daley at “Trilogy,” is close to signing has signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce. He’s now the front runner to face Nick Diaz for the Strikeforce welterweight title on August 15, according to GracieFighter.com.
Phil Baroni has been nixed by Showtime brass as a possible opponent for Nick Diaz. Attempts to sign Takanori Gomi for the bout went unfulfilled and Jay Hieron has become the front runner to fill the spot.
This fight has not been confirmed by Strikeforce yet, but all signs are pointing in that direction. I’ll let you know if/when Strikeforce makes it official.
Update: MMA Weekly updated their story which now says Hieron has only agreed in principle to fight for Strikeforce, not actually signed a contract yet. I changed the title and the wording to reflect the update.
