Just two days ago, we found out Michael Bisping was still looking for an opponent for UFC 105 after reports emerged that Wanderlei Silva would be unavailable in November. I threw Akiyama’s name out there, but props to reader “Johny P” for suggesting Denis Kang, because it looks like he called it.
Denis Kang has been offered a fight with Michael Bisping at UFC 105, Fighters Only has been able to confirm.
A reputable Canadian source contacted on Friday evening (British time) confirmed that the bout was in the works.
“Denis has been offered the fight so I presume Michael has as well,” the source said. “Nothing has been signed yet but yes, that is the fight that has been offered.”
Bisping said he only wanted tough fights after losing to Dan Henderson, and Kang will certainly give him one, so I don’t see why he wouldn’t accept. It’s also a great opportunity for Kang. Love him or hate him, Bisping is one of the UFC’s higher profile fighters, so Kang could certainly make a name for himself in the UFC with an impressive victory.
The UFC’s other UK star, Dan Hardy is also on his way to securing an opponent for UFC 105. He’s reportedly in talks to take on Dong Hyun Kim. Should be a good test for both fighters.
And last but not least, Inside Fights, citing a source within the UFC, is claiming that the upcoming lightweight title fight between BJ Penn and Diego Sanchez will headline the Manchester event. I don’t know how much stock I would put into this one yet though. Penn has said before he wouldn’t fight overseas since the pay is significantly lower, and we all know how stubborn he can be. What we don’t know at this point is if Penn has even been approached about the fight or if this is merely the product of a UFC brainstorming session. It’d be great for the UK fans if it happens since they’ve never had a title fight, but I’d take it with a grain of salt for now.

Update: Quick update on the Penn-Sanchez rumor. Fighters Only has confirmed that Diego has been offered the fight, but nothing is signed at this point.
“The fight has been put on the table,” the source said last night. “But nothing has been signed and nothing is confirmed at this stage.”
Update: Penn-Sanchez for UFC 105 is looking a lot more likely. Dave Meltzer says BJ Penn has agreed to the bout.
B.J. Penn has agreed to face Diego Sanchez on 11/14 in Manchester, England for the UFC lightweight title. This will be on Spike, not PPV.
Assuming Diego agrees, this fight should be a go.
