If you were looking forward to seeing Cris Cyborg destroy her next opponent on network television, you might have to wait a little while longer.
Cyborg has suffered an undisclosed injury and isn’t sure if she’ll be able to fight on the card.
“It’s unlikely that Cris will be fighting on [Nov. 7] but still possible,” her manager, Richard Wilner, told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
“I’m awaiting her return from Spain to get her assessed by a doctor here,” Wilner said. “Out of respect to Strikeforce, CBS and Cris’ potential opponent, we alerted them to this issue early so as not to interfere with pre-production, preparation, etc.”
Cris competed this past weekend at the 2009 ADCC World Submission Fighting Championships in Barcelona, Spain. It appears that’s where she sustained the injury, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
Cyborg still doesn’t have an official opponent for the Fedor-Rogers undercard, though Marloes Coenen is still telling everyone she’s got next dibs on the newly-crowned Strikeforce women’s champion.
If Cyborg isn’t cleared by her doctors, it’s definitely a missed opportunity for both her and Strikeforce. Her win over Gina Carano was huge for her career, but she needs to garner as much exposure as possible and there isn’t a bigger platform for her to fight on than CBS.
