Melvin Manhoef

Strikeforce just added arguably the hardest hitting middleweight in the world to their roster.

MMA and kickboxing veteran Melvin Manhoef has signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce. FanHouse learned of the agreement Wednesday morning.

Manhoef, who most recently lost to Paulo Filho at DREAM.10 in July, will now be exclusive to Strikeforce when he fights in the United States. The deal still allows for him to compete for other organizations overseas.

The press release says this a multi-year agreement with Strikeforce. When and where Manhoef will debut for the organization is up in the air. Robbie Lawler still needs an opponent for Strikeforce “Evolution” and Manhoef’s name is apparently on the short list, but his commitments overseas may prevent him from coming stateside in December. Trevor Prangley is also a leading candidate to face Lawler on Dec. 19.

Mahoef is definitely an exciting addition to the Strikeforce roster. He’s a little one-dimensional, but man when he hits people they drop like they’ve just been shot with a .44 Magnum. Potential fights with Robbie Lawler, Scott Smith and Cung Le should have you drooling.

Update: MMA Weekly says Manhoef won’t fight Lawler on Dec. 19 since he’s fighting at Dynamite!! 2009 on NYE. They also confirmed the rumored match-up between Lawler and Prangley is all but signed.
