A few interesting notes from Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole & Steve Cofield:
– UFC 112 may not actually happen in Abu Dhabi. Currently, the only venue for them to hold an event in is outdoors, and the weather in AD would be too hot in April. Dana White mentioned AD building an arena specifically for them to hold events but it’s unlikely that construction for such an arena could be completed in time. It’s still possible in AD, but by no means officially set.
– If Abu Dhabi gets ruled out, Dave Meltzer says Dublin, Manchester and Newcastle are all possible backup locations while Iole thinks they would probably just end up back in Vegas.
– And things could interesting if the UFC ends up back in Vegas in April. Strikeforce is also looking at Vegas, specifically The Thomas & Mack Arena to hold their big CBS event, though they have yet to obtain their promoters license from the NSAC yet. If both intend to hold cards in Vegas in the same month, the UFC will probably make it very hard for Strikeforce to run their show much like they did with Affliction. Meltzer says Strikeforce’s event is tentatively scheduled for April 17.
– Iole says the capital raised from the Abu Dhabi sale will not and cannot be used for Station Casinos’ financial troubles.
