Nate Diaz

Nate Diaz wasn’t kidding when he said he wanted to fight at welterweight. In fact, he’s already scheduled to make the move in March at UFC 111, possibly against Rory Markham.

The Stockton, Calif.-based Diaz (11-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) is expected to make his welterweight debut at UFC 111, where he could meet Rory Markham (16-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at the March 27 show, a source close to the event told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Although a few options are being discussed, Diaz vs. Markham is considered a frontrunner of the possible matchups.

This isn’t necessarily a permanent move. He told MMA Junkie he plans to compete in both the welterweight and lightweight divisions. Apparently, making the cut to lightweight year-round has been too taxing on his body.
