Strikeforce stars Cung Le and Cris “Cyborg” Santos have been added to Strikeforce’s June card according to Scott Coker. It’s now a question of who their opponents will be.
Cung Le recently expressed his desire for an immediate rematch with Scott Smith, and while that fight isn’t off the table, it seems Coker is pretty interested in another rematch — Cung Le vs. Frank Shamrock II.
“Cung definitely wants to fight, and Scott Smith, there’s been some dialogue about that. I know Cung would really like to fight him, but you should have seen my lunch today. I had Frank Shamrock on my right, then Cung on my left, it was a really interesting conversation,” said Coker.
“The opponent’s not picked yet, but we’re definitely going to put something together that’s going to be exciting for Cung in June.”
Considering how awesome their first fight was, I wouldn’t complain about a rematch, however Frank’s stock took another hit in his loss to Nick Diaz. If you’re asking for my vote, it’s for Le-Smith II. At least Cung actually came close to winning that fight unlike Frank in theirs.
Following Cris Cyborg’s successful title defense over Marloes Coenen at Strikeforce “Miami,” Scott Coker told MMA Fighting she would defend her title against Erin Toughill next, however those plans have been scrapped.
“I don’t think it will be Erin Toughill, but I think we’ll have a good fight for her,” said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker on MMAWeekly Radio Wednesday night. “She will fight in June for her next Strikeforce fight.”
The exact details are unknown, but Toughill apparently had a falling out with Strikeforce not too long ago. She says she’s no longer involved with the organization.
The event is tentatively scheduled for June 26 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California and may feature Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum in the main event pending the outcome and timing of Strikeforce’s negotiations with M-1.
