Paulo Filho is off Thursday’s Bellator 18 card again.
Bellator issued a statement last week saying they were handling the situation and the “super fight” between Hector Lombard and Paulo Filho was still a go after Filho told GracieMag he wasn’t able to secure a visa in time for the fight. Apparently, it didn’t come together quite like Bellator hoped it would. Filho is out, Jay Silva is in.
Paulo Filho has been forced out of Thursday’s non-title middleweight “super fight” against Hector Lombard, MMA Fighting has confirmed with Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney.
As a result, former UFC fighter Jay Silva (5-3) will step in on short notice to face Lombard (23-2) at Bellator 18 in Monroe, La. The event will air live on FOX Sports Net.
SI.com’s Josh Gross first reported the news on Monday.
It’s unclear if the fault lies with Bellator and Filho’s management as he alleged or Filho himself. What is clear is that Paulo Filho’s career has seen much better days.
