Bad news. Someone broke Wanderlei Silva’s ribs in training, and he’s officially off UFC 116.

Wanderlei Silva, who was scheduled to meet Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 116 on July 3, has been forced to withdraw from the card due to fractured ribs suffered in training, UFC president Dana White confirmed with MMA Fighting Tuesday afternoon.

Major bummer. I was looking forward to the Wand-Akiyama almost as much as the Lesnar-Carwin fight. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised though. With his balls-out training style it’s a wonder how he ever makes it to his fights in one piece.

The good news is the UFC has already found a replacement.

Fresh off a dominant win at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale, Chris Leben has agreed to replace injured Wanderlei Silva in the co-headliner of next week’s UFC 116 event.

A source close to the event told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) Leben has agreed to the bout and is expected to sign shortly.

Well, it’s good news for Yoshihiro Akiyama at least. He won’t have to revise his game plan too much. He goes from fighting one brawler to another.
