The WEC 51 card is beginning to come together. Assuming contracts get signed, featherweight champion Jose Aldo is expected to put his title on the line against Manny Gamburyan in the main event.

The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight who stated both competitors have verbally agreed to it.

WEC General Manager Reed Harris spoke to MMAWeekly Radio last week about the possibility of the fight. While he stopped short of confirming the bout, it sounded like all signs are pointing in that direction.

“I can tell you that we’re working on a number of fights, but I don’t have anything signed yet, that’s my problem. I can’t announce things until they’re signed, but let me just say that there’s a great possibility you could see something like that in September,” Harris said about Aldo vs. Gamburyan.

In what may become the co-main event, Miguel Torres is expected to return to bantamweight action against Charlie Valencia.

The third fight on the card isn’t so certain. According to Sherdog, the long-awaited rematch between Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner is penciled in for the card, however another report says the bout hasn’t even been offered to either fighter yet. Plus, Varner is more interested in a rematch with lightweight title holder Ben Henderson than settling the score with Cerrone.

Other reported match-ups for the card include Leonard Garcia vs. Mark Hominick, Chan Sung Jung vs. George Roop and Tyler Toner vs. TBD.

WEC 51 is expected to take place on Thursday, Sept. 30 at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado and will air live on Versus. The latest WEC 51 fight card can be found in our fight cards section.
