UFC Fight Night 22 has lost one half of its main event. Alan Belcher was forced to pull out of his headlining fight against Demain Maia due to a detached retina. Belcher explained on Twitter how he had to fly from Brazil back to the US for emergency surgery.

While I was in brazil I started losing my vision in my right eye. I saw a dr that told me to go back to us immediately. My friend/surgeon from biloxi got me an emergency surgery scheduled in alabama now just trying to recover. No contact for 6 weeks. Sorry to my trainers. Sorry to ufc & demian Maia, I know he has been training specifically for me. Sorry to my fans as well. As long as I get released from dr I will try to make ufn 22 to see my fans and watch the fights.

Belcher also posted a video of himself following the surgery. MMA Weekly reports that the UFC is currently searching for a replacement to fight Maia in the UFC Fight Night 22 main event.

Update: Reports are coming in that Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares, originally slated for UFC 118, is being moved over to headline UFC Fight Night 22 instead of Demian Maia vs. TBD. Maia has been pulled from the card. No word yet on where he’ll end up, but he’d like to fight on the UFC 118 card in Boston.

Update 2: Demian Maia will fight Mario Miranda at UFC 118.
