“I am aware that I am not going to be 100 percent for this fight because in this sport five weeks notice is basically last minute notice. But I know the UFC had no other solution (ie no other big-name replacement available) and so I could not refuse the owner of the UFC, who has made me financially secure, or the UFC fans, who I do not want to disappoint.”

—Mirko Cro Cop, via Fighters Only, talking to the Croatian media about stepping in to fight Frank Mir on short notice at UFC 119

That doesn’t sound promising…

By the way, Frank Mir vs. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic is now official. No word yet on the length of Cro Cop’s new contract though.

Update: This is more like it. Cro Cop might not be ready, but that doesn’t mean he can’t knock Frank Mir’s head off in the first round. Index.hr via MiddleEasy:

“Just this morning I had a good workout. Perhaps the worst thing is the immediacy of the training and get tired out there. This all, of course, does not mean that I am looking for an excuse, but I certainly will not be ready. However, it still means I can lay [Frank Mir] out in the first round.”
