Former featherweight champ Urijah Faber was supposed to make his bantamweight debut last month against Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 50, but a knee injury suffered in training forced Faber to withdraw from the card. Rather than find a new opponent for Mizugaki, the WEC elected to postpone the fight. According to MMA Weekly, it has been rescheduled for WEC 52.
Urijah Faber’s bantamweight debut was supposed to be in September, but a knee injury sidelined the former 145-pound champion a couple of extra months. The “California Kid” is now primed to return on Nov. 11 against Japanese heavy-hitter Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 52 in Las Vegas.
The news was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight on Thursday, stating bout agreements have been issued and should be signed shortly for the November contest.
Another former WEC title holder will return to action on Nov. 11. Brian Bowles, who hasn’t fought since he lost his WEC bantamweight title to Dominick Cruz back in March, will take on Wagnney Fabiano, and according to Sportsnet.ca, the winner could put themselves in the title picture.
A stellar bantamweight bout between former WEC 135-pound champion Brian Bowles (8-1) and Wagnney “The Silencer” Fabiano (14-2) is rumoured to go down at WEC 52, tentatively scheduled for Nov. 10.
Sources close to the bout have informed me that the winner of this fight will likely be next in line for a title shot.
However, rumoured WEC 52 main event headliners Urijah Faber and Takeya Mizugaki will likely have a say in that as well.
While the event was rumored to take place at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California, MMA Junkie is hearing it will go down at The Pearl at The Palms Casino & Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada instead. You can check out the latest WEC 52 fight card in our fight cards section.
