Thiago Silva has been out of commission with lingering back issues since he fought Rashad Evans at UFC 108. Despite the setbacks, Silva will likely return to action one day shy of a full year at UFC 125 on Jan. 1. If bout agreements get signed, he’ll take on Brandon Vera.
A pair of light heavyweights looking to rebound from recent high-profile losses will likely meet in January in what could easily be viewed as a “must-win” for both contestants involved.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the contest that the UFC is targeting a matchup between Thiago Silva (14-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) and Brandon Vera (11-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) at UFC 125.
At least one of the contestants has agreed to the contest, but bout agreements have yet to be distributed.
Meanwhile, George Sotiropolous and Joe Lauzon recently put on two of the most impressive performances we’ve seen out of the lightweight division this year. They’re both climbing the lightweight ladder, but according to MMA Mania, only one of them will make it to the next rung when they meet at UFC 123.
There’s a fantastic lightweight match-up brewing between up-and-coming division prospects Joe Lauzon and George Sotiropoulos, as the Ultimate Fighter (TUF) veterans are currently in talks to throw down at the upcoming UFC 123 pay-per-view on Nov. 20 in Auburn Hills, MI.
MMAmania.com confirmed the pending match-up earlier today.
