Strikeforce has booked a match-up for their Dec. 4 show that is all but guaranteed to produce fireworks. As first reported by Carmichael Dave, and later confirmed by MMA Weekly and MMA Fighting, Paul Daley will make his Strikeforce debut against fellow slugger Scott Smith at Strikeforce “Henderson vs. Babalu.”
In a matchup with fireworks written all over it, kickboxer Paul Daley will take on slugger Scott Smith on Dec. 4 at Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu in St. Louis.
First reported as in the works by CSNCalifornia.com, MMAFighting.com on Tuesday received confirmation from Strikeforce that the welterweight bout is set to go.
The fight will take place at 170 lbs. Even though he’s been competing at middleweight for years, Scott Smith recently told MMA Heat’s Karyn Bryant that it was time for him to move down to the welterweight division. According to the MMA Weekly report, Smith is already walking around at 185 lbs. and shouldn’t have any problems making the cut.
Making weight will be the least of Smith’s worries come fight week though. Paul Daley has great hands with legitimate knockout power which doesn’t bode well for Smith who has yet to show anything that resembles solid defense on the feet. It probably goes without saying that Daley is going to hit Smith in the face early and often. The question is, can Smith take those shots like he has in the past and pull off one of his classic come-from-behind KO’s?
