When Brendan Schaub enters the Octagon this March, Frank Mir won’t be standing across from him as previously expected. Instead, Schaub will take on Stefan Struve, possibly at UFC on Versus 3. Sportnet.ca’s “Showdown” Joe Ferraro first reported the news earlier today.

A source has informed me that the UFC has decided to replace Mir with Stefan “The Skyscraper” Struve.

This bout has not been made official by the organization, and it appears the two stud heavyweights are expected to tangle on the UFC’s March 03rd free, televised show, featuring a main event between welterweights Diego “The Nightmare” Sanchez and Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann.

MMA Weekly has since confirmed the switch, but says the fight is not a lock for UFC on Versus 3.

It’s unclear why the UFC pulled Mir from the fight at this point. No injury reports have surfaced, however there’s still a ton of speculation floating around about Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar coaching TUF 13. Dave Meltzer floated the idea of allowing Lesnar to participate in Wrestlemania, which he was apparently offered millions to do, in exchange for spending six weeks in Vegas to coach TUF 13, but Dana White made it pretty clear a few weeks back that he wasn’t going to let Lesnar back in the WWE even for a one-off event. Still, the UFC suddenly pulling Mir from the Schaub fight is certainly going to make people wonder.
