After three long years, I’m proud to announce that MMAConvert.com is finally in a position to hire our first paid staff member. While I hope to employ a full writing staff at some point, we’re going to start small with a part-time assistant editor position. The person I hire for this position will essentially become my right hand man, so if you’re up to working with me on a daily basis, read on!
Requirements & Qualifications
— Must be creative & independent: You will need to come up with your own story ideas and be capable of editing your own work. I can’t stress enough how important this is. I need someone to reduce my workload, not add to it.
— Must add value to the site: I’m looking for a talented, creative writer that will help the site grow. Having an existing network of sources for exclusive news stories would be a plus, but not required.
— Must have a strong work ethic: To start, you will be required to post 4-6 times a week in addition to live event coverage. This includes normal blog posts on daily news stories and any features we come up with. This position does have growth potential. As the site grows, so will your compensation and posting responsibilities.
— Must have a flexible schedule: I need someone who can post during and after normal business hours. Additionally, you must be available to provide live coverage for all UFC and Strikeforce events. This means having access to east coast feeds for events tape-delayed on the west coast.
— Must have prior MMA writing experience: Even if you’ve only written for a small blog, I’m looking for someone who has significant experience writing about MMA. We have a casual tone here. If you’re accustomed to writing strict AP-style hard news stories, you’re probably not the right fit for us.
— Must be professional: You will represent MMAConvert.com. You will be expected to conduct yourself with professionalism at all times, especially when dealing with other industry professionals.
— Previous experience with HTML, Photoshop and WordPress is a plus.
As I said, this will be a paid position, but unfortunately it won’t allow you to quit your day job. It’s only a small part-time position for now. If you’re still interested, please send an email to [email protected] with the following:
- Brief cover letter describing why you want to write for us and what you bring to the site (include this in the body of the email)
- Your resume (MS Word .doc or .pdf attachment if possible)
- Your absolute best writing sample (a link to it will suffice)
Please understand I won’t be able to respond to everyone, so allow me to thank you now for your interest.
