If Alistair Overeem blasts his way through the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, you can bet your house and car that everyone is going to be calling for an Alistair Overeem vs. Cain Velasquez (or Junior dos Santos/Brock Lesnar) title unification match in 2012. When Peace Magazine asked Cain about that potential heavyweight super showdown, the always laid back Velasquez replied, “That would be good.” It would be an “awesome” fight for the fans, and he wouldn’t be worried about Overeem’s devastating knee strikes.
“That would be good. I’m hoping to see what happens with the tournament and I’m hoping to get back as soon as possible. I think Overeem is a really good fighter, he’s explosive, I definitely think he’s one of the best out there right now. That would be awesome for the fans as well. No, I’m not scared (of taking one of his big knees), it’s part of the sport you get hit, you have to be confident.”
Velasquez also commented on the UFC-Strikeforce deal, Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar vs. JDS.
