Does Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira know something we don’t know? Perhaps. According to Tatame, the PRIDE legend says his teammate and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is going to defend his title against Yushin Okami at UFC Rio on August 27 in Brazil.
UFC middleweight champion and a national celebrity after knocking Vitor Belfort out at UFC 126, Anderson Silva will be the biggest star of UFC Rio card. According to Rodrigo ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira, former UFC heavyweight champion and his training partner, Silva will fight Yushin Okami, the last opponent to defeat him (by DQ at Rumble on the Rock 8, in 2006), trying to set a new record of nine straight title defenses in the UFC. The return of the organization to Brazil will take place at Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena, on August 27.
Dana White originally said that Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre would meet in a middleweight super fight next if GSP beats Jake Shields later this month, however his tune changed last month when he hinted that Silva may also have to get through Yushin Okami before that fight can happen. Assuming the report is accurate and Big Nog isn’t misinformed, it looks like that’s going to be the case, although at this stage, it’s unclear if anything is signed or if it’s only something Silva has verbally agreed to.

Update: MMA Junkie says Big Nog spoke too soon. Silva-Okami is possible, but more of a back-up plan in case GSP loses at UFC 129 or the camps decide they don’t want to do the super fight.
