UFC 131 in Vancouver may not be the last time the UFC visits Canada for a major pay-per-view event this year. UFC Canada’s Tom Wright revealed on the Ringside Report Radio show that they are planning to make another trip back to the Great White North on Dec. 10 for UFC 140. If all goes according to plan, the event would take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, the same venue they held UFC 124 “St. Pierre vs. Koscheck” last December.
“We’ll do Vancouver on June 11 and then most likely we’ll be back in Montreal on December 10,” Wright said.
“We know how important this market is to us and putting on great fights,” Wright said. “It’s a great venue (Bell Centre), it’s a great fan-base, it’s a great environment. The energy in that building is as good as any building in North America. We’ll always have a soft spot for Montreal.”
No fights are set for the card at the present time, but Wright vaguely acknowledged that a welterweight title fight between Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz is being discussed.
“Well I’ve heard about the Nick Diaz-GSP fight but it is too early (to tell),” Wright said.
GSP vs. Diaz would make all the sense in the world to headline a return to Montreal. Here’s to hoping it gets done.
