It’s official. Andrei Arlovski has signed with ProElite and will headline their upcoming August 27 return to mixed martial arts. ProElite’s director of operations T. Jay Thompson confirmed the news with KHON 2 News:
Proelite fighting’s director of MMA operations TJ Thompson, once owner of the Icon Sport organization centered here in Hawaii confirmed with KHON2 today that a contract has been signed and former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski will be among the headliners of the August 27 fight card.
It’s unclear who Arlovski’s opponent will be — hopefully someone with minimal punching power — but Arlovski’s manager did tell MMA Junkie that they have a tentative opponent in place. Bout agreements have yet to be signed though, so his identity remains a mystery.
Thompson wouldn’t confirm any other names for the card, but word is Kendall Grove will compete on it as well.
Other rumored match-ups include Drew McFedries vs. Kala Hose, Raquel Pa‘aluhi vs. Sara McMann and Jake Heun vs. Mark Ellis.
It’s still unknown if and how the card will be broadcast, but if it is, they’re probably going to have a difficult time getting people to tune in considering UFC 134 is going down the same night in Brazil.
