The UFC announced a handful of bouts for UFC 136, including the headliner, earlier today.

As expected, Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard will finally meet for the third and hopefully final time in the main event. Lightweight contenders are stacking up behind them, so let’s hope they make it through camp injury-free this time and one of them prevails as the decisive winner.

Following his close loss to Mark Munoz, Demian Maia will return to action on the Houston card to take on Jorge Santiago in a middleweight match-up. Santiago is coming off a loss as well so this is a pretty big fight for him. A loss to Maia would put him at 1-4 overall in the UFC. Not exactly the kind of record that ensures job security in this business.

Joe Silva has granted Melvin Guillard’s wish to fight Joe Lauzon in Houston. As Guillard explained last week, he’s anxious to get back in the cage and prove that the days of “getting caught in submissions, getting taken down and letting people control him” are over. A win over Lauzon will certainly go a long ways in convincing people that’s true.

Other bouts announced for the card include Josh Grispi vs. Matt Grice and Dave Herman vs. Mike Russow.

With Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann already booked, UFC 136 is shaping up very nicely.
