It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything from former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le. He hasn’t fought since he avenged his loss to Scott Smith last year at Strikeforce “Fedor vs. Werdum,” but in an interview with Fight Hype, Le explains that he would like to fight for the UFC before he ends his mixed martial arts career, and he even has a date, location and opponent in mind.

I would like to have a couple of fights in the UFC… Ever since I heard that Cain [Velasquez] was going to be fighting in San Jose. I would love to be on the same card… You know, on Yahoo! Sports, there is a Cung Le vs. Leben thread if there was a cross promotion. Like I said, if the fans think it is an exciting fight for them to watch, I’m all for it.

The UFC hasn’t been in a big rush to bring Strikeforce’s top drawing talent over to the UFC, but they at least showed their open to it with Nick Diaz if the situation makes sense and the fans want to see it. It’s unknown if the UFC would even be interested in an inactive Le at this point, but they did show interest in him in the past and there were even rumored to be in talks at one point before Le decided to put his fighting career on hold to make movies. If they are interested though, Le hinted that a move to the UFC would be possible contractually, but there might be some roadblocks with Showtime.

Le vs. Leben would definitely be a fun fight, but this was really just a product of Le answering some questions in an interview. So unless Dana White and the UFC say otherwise, I’m not expecting that we’ll actually see the fight in November or Cung Le in the UFC anytime soon.
