A light heavyweight tilt between Lyoto Machida and Phil Davis is in the works, according to Machida’s manager, Jorge Guimarães.

Guimarães told Yahoo! Esportes that he’s in talk with the UFC to put Machida in a bout with Davis sometime this fall. Here’s Guimarães and Machida commenting on the potential match-up via Tatame:

“We already contacted [the UFC] and we’ll be able to talk more about that soon. He (Davis) is the most concrete option in the division,” Guimarães said. “He’s be a huge opponent for Lyoto, who’s one of the biggest idols of the sport in Brazil and needs to fight again soon”.

“It’d be a clash of styles. Davis is a wrestler, who keeps a strong rhythm on all the rounds until the end. I would need to adjust some aspects in my training to fight him, but this technical change always were one of my best characteristics. I won’t have any problems”, Lyoto said.

It’s an interesting match-up but I think I’d rather see a number one contender’s match between Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson. If Hendo signs with the UFC, that is.
