After thoroughly dominated Brian Stann, Chael Sonnen gave what some are calling “the best interview in UFC history.” Whether it was or not, it was certainly the gutsiest. With Anderson Silva ringside, Sonnen completely ignored Joe Rogan’s first post-fight question and proceeded to call out the middleweight champ in epic fashion.
“Anderson Silva, you absolutely suck. Super Bowl weekend … the biggest rematch in the history of the sport. I’m calling you out, Silva, but we’re upping the stakes. I beat you, you leave the division. You beat me, I’ll leave the UFC forever.”
Then he walked out of cage.
At the post-fight press conference, Sonnen said a deal’s a deal and he’s a man of his word, and added that if the roles were reversed, he would walked into the cage and “shoved the microphone up his ass”, but all Anderson did was sit there. Sonnen said it was a good move by Silva.
Dana White stopped short of giving Sonnen the rematch right then and there, but acknowledged that it’s a fight that people want to see. Sonnen wants it on Super Bowl weekend, but Dana says that card will take place in Vegas where Sonnen still has licensing issues. As Dana said, “we’ll see what happens.”
