It was announced last month that Jake Ellenberger and Martin Kampmann would main event at The Ultimate Fighter: Live Finale on June 1. Now, it has been announced that the fight will determine the No. 1 contender in the welterweight division.

UFC president Dana White announced the bout significance in a press release on Monday.

The welterweight division is stacked and Jake Ellenberger and Martin Kampmann are going to fight for the chance to earn a title shot. They will headline the season finale of TUF: Live on FX to crown the next Ultimate Fighter. There’s a lot at stake for the guys competing on this card at the Palms.

Ellenberger and Kampmann have each been on a roll as of late, with Ellenberger defeating Diego Sanchez earlier this year and Kampmann downing Thiago Alves.

Atop the division sits both Carlos Condit and Georges St-Pierre. Condit earned the interim UFC welterweight title by defeating Nick Diaz, while GSP has been the champ for several years. Knee surgery, however, has kept St-Pierre on the sideline. Those two will still meet later this year as long as GSP heals up in time.

Ellenberger and Kampmann will be an interesting bout, as Ellenberger is fresh off his first main event, while Kampmann earned a come-from-behind victory over Silva.
