For two-plus weeks, Urijah Faber had to hear about how UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz was taking it to his fighters on The Ultimate Fighter: Live.
Now, following a decision victory by Team Faber top pick Al Iaquinta, “The California Kid” has some momentum to build on going forward.
This week, Faber will send Mike Chiesa against Jeremy Larsen. The two will do battle live on FX Friday night at 10 p.m. ET.
As he told MMA Junkie’s John Morgan in a recent interview, getting that first victory was very important to himself and the team.
It does feel good. We needed that. I do my best to disassociate from wins and losses that other people are doing, but it does feel great to get a win. We really needed that, and Al knew that also.
The bout featured the first sudden-victory round of the young season, as Iaquinta pulled out the win over Myles Jury – who some had pegged as the odds-on-favorite to win the tournament.
Faber is hoping that this win helps spark a run for his team, as Cruz won the first two bouts convincingly.
