News of Alistair Overeem’s failed pre-fight drug test has spread like a wild fire around the world of MMA.
Frank Mir, who is currently set to meet Cain Velasquez at UFC 146 in a No. 1 contender match for the UFC heavyweight title, was asked by Steven Marrocco of MMA Junkie what he thought of Overeem and the idea of him being pulled from a bout with UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos on the same card.
Oh, cool. I’m excited that maybe now I can get a title shot.
Overeem’s testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio came back more than 10-to-1, with the limit being 6-to-1. He can have his second sample tested, and hopefully be cleared with that one and keep his title shot.
UFC president Dana White had some pretty choice words concerning the incident in an interview with Dave Deibert from The Star Phoenix.
I am beyond pissed about this. I’m so (expletive) mad right now I can’t even begin. How (expletive) stupid do you have to be? Seriously dumb. You’re an absolute moron, a brain-dead absolute (expletive) dummy. It goes beyond a guy having any common sense whatsoever.
White also said that Overeem told both himself and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta that he could pass any and all drug tests given to him when he signed his UFC contract.
While White would like nothing more than to pair dos Santos and Overeem together, this cloud that will now hover over Overeem makes it seem unlikely that he will get the title shot.
