Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar faced plenty of talk about dropping down to featherweight following his loss to Benson Henderson earlier this year.
Heck, “The Answer” has been fighting off those kind of reports for several years to be honest.
During a recent press event in Atlanta, Edgar told MMA Fighting’s Mike Chiappetta that he knows 145 pounds is likely in his future, but he still wants to compete at 155 for now.
We’ll see what the future holds, but I think it’s inevitable that I’ll eventually get down there. I just don’t know when.
Edgar added that he doesn’t want to drop down just because he lost the title at lightweight. While nothing has been scheduled, he is expected to receive a rematch with Henderson, likely later this summer.
As for talk of an Edgar-Jose Aldo meeting, the former champ is all for it.
I’m all about fighting big fights, and fighting the best guys, and Jose Aldo’s one of them. We’ll see where it’s at, whether it’s at 145 or 155.
Edgar will be a force for several years in either division. His wrestling, striking and ability to take all sorts of punishment assure him of that claim.
