UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will undergo surgery soon to repair a torn ACL suffered in training last week.

The injury knocked Cruz out of a planned co-main event bout with Urijah Faber for his title at UFC 148 in July. However, “The Dominator” will remain as a coach opposite Faber on The Ultimate Fighter: Live through the end of the season.

While the recovery time for an injury like the one suffered by Cruz is anywhere from six months to a year, Cruz is planning on making a complete return.

In the meantime, the UFC has decided to create an interim title, with Faber taking part in the match to crown that champion at UFC 148. His opponent has yet to be determined.
