UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will finish his coaching duties on The Ultimate Fighter: Live before he opts for surgery to repair his torn ACL, according to Ariel Helwani.

Helwani confirmed on a recent edition of “UFC Tonight” that Cruz has yet to set a date for the operation.

“The Dominator” tore his knee ligament in practice and was forced out of a planned third encounter with Urijah Faber at UFC 148 in July. Helwani added that, “he is in better spirits, (and) he is going to finish up TUF: Live and then have surgery.”

Cruz is likely looking at a six-to-nine month recovery time before he steps back inside the Octagon. UFC president Dana White is set to announce an opponent for Faber this coming week on TUF: Live.
