When it was reported that Fedor Emelianenko proclaimed his upcoming June 21 fight with Pedro Rizzo as a retirement bout, many felt that there was a miscommunication in the interview.

Well, it seems that might have been the case, as “The Last Emperor” recently told Russia 2 in a new interview.

“We’ll see. It’s not a fact that I will retire on June 21,” Emelianenko said. “I don’t know who came to conclusion that I will coach young fighters. Everyone talks about my retirement, and that I will train young fighters; I never said that.”

Fedor-Rizzo takes place from the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. It will mark the first time he has fought in St. Petersburg since defeating Matt Lindland in 2007.

Emelianenko has won his last two fights over Jeff Monson and Satoshi Ishii after falling to Dan Henderson, Antonio Silva and Fabricio Werdum.
