UFC president Dana White has received plenty of heat for trying to tell fighters when it is time to hang it up.
It started with Chuck Liddell, continued through Tito Ortiz, and now, Wanderlei Silva appears up next.
Silva will meet Rich Franklin tonight in the main event of UFC 147, as “The Axe Murderer” seeks redemption for a previous loss to “Ace” in Brazil.
During the post-fight show on FUEL TV Friday night, White was asked if Silva is in a must-win situation vs. Franklin.
“I love the guy. And yes, if he takes some crazy damage in this fight and gets knocked down, he and I are going to have a talk. But, give him a break and let the guy take a shot and see what he can do,” White said. “I have said it many times; Silva was a Pride fighter and my arch nemesis for many years. But since he has stepped into the UFC, he has been nothing but a stud. It’s almost like he was in the UFC his whole career.”
The 35-year-old Silva has gone just 2-3 in his last five fights, but is coming off a TKO victory over Cung Le last year. Franklin defeated him back in 2009 via decision.
