Edson Barboza’s spinning wheel kick knockout victory over Terry Etim earlier this year was pegged as the Knockout of the Year by many when it took place.

Well, it appears others from around the sports world feel Barboza’s incredible KO was great, as well, as he has been nominated for the ESPY for Play of the Year.

The ESPY’s are ESPN’s yearly awards show that honors everything from football, baseball and basketball to MMA.

“It is really nice to be able to see MMA competing head-to-head with soccer, football, golf and others,” said Barboza, in a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com. “I am especially happy….because MMA is growing every year more and more. I realized that MMA is growing faster and faster.”

You can help Barboza land an ESPY by voting at either ESPN’s main site or the ESPY site.

Barboza isn’t the only MMA athlete up for an award, as UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva are two finalists for Fighter of the Year.
