UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva promised to deliver in his recent fight with Chael Sonnen. “The Spider” did so, stopping his biggest challenger to date with a second round victory.

UFC president Dana White, while making an appearance on The Jim Rome Show recently, re-told a meeting between himself and Sonnen after the fight this past Saturday in Las Vegas.

This is what Chael Sonnen said to me after the fight. He didn’t say it at the press conference, but he said it to me. He said, ‘I have so much respect for this guy, Dana. I’ve been competing in combat sports since I was seven years old. In that first round, when I was on top of him, hittin’ him with those big elbows, I felt him break. I broke him in that first round. He came back in the second round and destroyed me. I’ve never seen anybody do that, ever.

Sonnen took Silva down just seconds into the first round of action, and kept him there until the whistle blew to end the first five minutes. In the second, Sonnen was caught with several quick strikes by Silva, who eventually finished him on the ground.

Both Silva and Sonnen appear at a stand-still as to where they go from here after competing in one of the biggest matches in UFC history.
