Former UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch wanted to return to action Wednesday night at UFC on FUEL TV: Munoz vs. Weidman. Issues with his knee, however, caused Fitch to pull out of a planned contest with Aaron Simpson.

Simpson went on to defeat Kenny Robertson in his debut at welterweight. The “A-Train” wanted Fitch, and maybe he will get him down the road, as Fitch pointed to a return this fall.

“Should be ready end of sept!” Fitch wrote on Twitter when asked about a potential match with Simpson, who said he would love to face Fitch on the post-fight show.

Fitch (23-4-1) has not competed since last December when he suffered just the second knockout loss of his career against Johny Hendricks.

By targeting a September return, Fitch could be included on either the UFC 152 or UFC on FUEL TV 5 event, as both take place late in the month.
