UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is regarded by many to be the baddest man on the planet. With his incredible boxing skills, and the UFC title to back it up, “Cigano” isn’t afraid of anyone.
That includes Alistair Overeem, who recently sounded off that he felt as if dos Santos was afraid to face him inside the Octagon. Overeem, the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion, is currently sidelined with a suspension until December, making any talk of a match pointless for now.
Still, as a proud fighter, dos Santos didn’t let the opportunity to fire back at Overeem pass him by during a recent appearance on UFC Tonight.
I am afraid? HAHA. Man, the school of Chael Sonnen is going to have more students because now (Overeem) is going to start a lot of crap just because the UFC gave Chael the opportunity to fight Anderson (Silva) again. But if he thinks he’s better than me, he can come fight me and when he feels the power of my hands, he is going to change his mind.
Dos Santos and Overeem were set to meet earlier this year, but “The Reem” was removed from the bout due to a failed pre-fight drug test that showed elevated levels of testosterone. When he couldn’t make a strong enough case for the issue, he was suspended. Frank Mir took his place and dos Santos scored a stoppage victory.
As for the next time dos Santos competed, even the champion doesn’t know yet, saying, “the UFC didn’t ask me to fight (at UFC 152). They didn’t tell my anything, so here I am.” It is rumored that he will face Cain Velasquez in a rematch from their 2011 fight in which dos Santos won the belt.
