Former UFC light heavyweight champions Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Lyoto Machida will compete at UFC on Fox 4 in August.

The two will not face each other, but can make a case for becoming the next contender in the division with a strong win. Rua meets Brandon Vera in the main event, while Machida takes on Ryan Bader in the co-main event.

Vera is nowhere near a title shot, but UFC president Dana White added in the same email sent to Fox Sports that Bader could find his way into a bout for the title with a convincing victory.

These fighters have a huge opportunity to show the world why they deserve to fight for the UFC title next. “Winning isn’t enough at UFC on Fox. This division is so competitive these fighters have to look great to separate themselves from the pack.

The interesting thing about White saying those things is that current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has defeated all three. “Bones,” who will meet Dan Henderson at UFC 151 in September, topped Bader to earn a shot vs. Rua, and successfully defended his crown against Machida. All three victories by Jones were stoppage wins.
