UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has turned throwing elbows into an art form in MMA.

Jones, who will defend his title against Dan Henderson later this year, was the subject of a recent Brandon Vera comment that was quite interesting.

Vera is set to tangle with the man Jones won the belt from, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, at UFC on FOX 4 this coming Saturday. During an interview with UFC.com, Vera (18-5-1) explained that he was thinking, “(Jones) (expletive) sucks,” right before this happened:

Before I finished the word ‘suck,’ that’s when the elbow smashed my face. Mr. Jones is a great fighter and I didn’t give him the respect that he deserved during that fight. It was a good lesson learned and I thank him for it and I hate him for it at the same time.

The elbow broke Vera’s cheek bone and sent him to the sidelines for several months. “The Truth” has defeated Eliot Marshall and had a loss to Thiago Silva changed to a no-contest since that 2010 encounter.
