Mike Swick has battled a misdiagnosed disease, an esophageal spasm and a knee injury since his last fight inside the Octagon.

Now, Swick is ready to return, as he faces DaMarques Johnson at UFC on Fox: Shogun vs. Vera Saturday night.

Swick (14-4) has lost his last two fights, but they took place in 2010 and ’09 against Paulo Thiago and Dan Hardy.

After battling through all those non-Octagon issues, “Quick” is excited to be fighting again.

I’m faster than I’ve ever been, I’ve worked speed non-stop for two years, and I’m more motivated and hungry. That fire that used to burn is even bigger.

Swick feels like Johnson (16-10) is the perfect opponent for his return, as both fighters want to stand and trade until the other wilts.

I love how he pressures and comes forward, he looks for the finish, and he’s not a boring fighter. He’s not gonna try to hang on to me or win a decision, and I think it’s gonna be a great match up for the fans. He’s the perfect fight to showcase that I am back.

Swick was an original member of the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. He lost to Stephan Bonnar in the semifinals.
