Lyoto Machida is a former UFC light heavyweight champion who won his first 16 career fights.
Since that time, however, “The Dragon” has gone just 1-3, including a recent submission loss to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Now, as he prepares for Ryan Bader this Saturday night at UFC on FOX: Shogun vs. Vera, Machida understands why you must be an ever-evolving fighter in MMA.
“My striking is very sharp, and I’ve worked on my wrestling because Bader is a strong wrestler,” Machida said. “I’ve made some radical changes in my training, although karate will always be my main focus. I am getting back on the road to the title.”
Machida, Bader, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Brandon Vera are all in position to claim the next title shot at the UFC 205-pound title. The one who wins in most impressive fashion will be named the No. 1 contender, according to UFC president Dana White.
