Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza made a statement Saturday night by knocking out Derek Brunson in the co-main event of Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman.

Souza (16-3) has now won both his fights via stoppage since losing the title to Luke Rockhold last year.

Rockhold, fresh off a successful title defense over Tim Kennedy, feels there is unsettled business with Souza. In his own mind, “Jacare” believes he defeated Rockhold and also wants to even the score.

So, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, is this the next match to make?

I’d like to see that fight happen. I know ‘Jacare’ would like that fight. Luke’s looking for that fight; it’d be an easy fight (to arrange).

Souza unloaded with a huge strike that floored Brunson. He followed up with another quick right before walking away with the fighter knocked out.

By showcasing his striking vs. Brunson, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt likely put a scare into several members of the 185-pound roster. He owns 12 career victories via submission.
