Randy Couture is a former UFC champion in two weight classes.

Currently, Couture splits his time working out with his Xtreme Couture fight members and filming movies.

At Xtreme Couture, “The Natural” has been able to see Martin Kampmann improve day in and day out. Kampmann is currently set for a potential No. 1 contender match in the welterweight division at UFC 154 in November against Johny Hendricks.

Couture, for one, feels as though “The Hitman” is ready to become that top contender.

“I think Kampmann’s last win puts him real close to No. 1 contender status in that division,” said Couture, in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV. “Between him and Johny Hendricks, you’re probably looking at the next title shot after we settle the dispute between (Carlos) Condit and Georges (St-Pierre).”

Kampmann (20-5) is a sparkling 10-4 since making his UFC debut in 2006. Kampmann enters the fight on a three-bout win streak.

“He just continues to move up,” Couture said. “I’m not sure that he’s won a round in the last three fights, but certainly won the last three fights in a very convincing fashion. Martin, in a lot of ways, is the perfect example of it’s not always whether you win or lose, it’s important how you compete and Martin has always been some amazingly competitive fights.”
