Former UFC flyweight contender Chad Mendes will be charged with battery after an alleged incident at a California bar last month, according to a report by The Sentinel.
Mendes (12-1), who recently defeated Cody McKenzie, has denied any wrongdoing. A representative for the UFC fighter said, “majority of the facts pertaining to him in the story are absolutely false.”
Reports have Mendes re-entering the bar after a fight began outside and sucker punching a patron. Assistant sheriff Dave Putnam told the newspaper, “The victim felt lucky to walk out with just a contusion after being punched by Mendes.”
Mendes faces a potential $2,000 fine and up to six months in jail if convicted by the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
