Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier has talked previously about moving down to 205 pounds if teammate Cain Velasquez wins the UFC heavyweight title again.

Cormier, who is currently set to face Frank Mir in Strikeforce before 2012 is over, informed that he is shocked so many fighters have turned down bouts with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

No one want to fight Jon Jones, but shit, I’ll fight Jon Jones. Guys are turning down the fight; you have to go to an old-school fighter like Vitor Belfort to step up to the plate. That’s no knock on (Lyoto) Machida or Shogun (Rua), but if those guys want to coach on The Ultimate Fighter, (then) move off to the side and let me fight Jones. I’ll do it.

Cormier earned the GP title by defeating Josh Barnett earlier this year. He is likely headed to the UFC after the Mir fight, so a potential collision with Jones could be in the cards. Both Machida and Rua declined fights with Jones, and the UFC offered the title shot to Belfort. Jones and Belfort will meet at UFC 152 in September.

“DC” and Velasquez are teammates at American Kickboxing Academy and Cormier has stated in the past that he would move to 205 if Velasquez secures the heavyweight title again.
